It’s Sunday today, so that means I am getting myself ready for the upcoming week!
Honestly, I am dreading the week ahead, and am already feeling stressed about everything I need to do. So, I thought I would take a little extra time this Sunday to prepare myself for this week. I try and do this every week, but unfortunately, I don’t always actually do it. So, I thought I would share my Sunday routine:
1. Let myself sleep in – I typically wake up to an alarm every other day of the week, so it feels nice to let myself sleep in. Additionally, doing this ensures that my body gets all the sleep it needs to feel rested.
2. Go on a walk – I don’t generally work out on Sundays, but I like going on a little walk in the mornings sometimes. I’ll usually ask my housemates if they want to come with me, so it is a way to get some fresh air, exercise and catch up with my friends.
3. Deep clean my room – this means doing my laundry, cleaning all surfaces, cleaning my bedding, and everything else in between. I like to start the week off in a space that feels clean as it allows me to be more productive.
4. Identify goals for the week – this step is very helpful for productivity. The goals can be anything that you want to accomplish for the week. I typically try and identify a few academic goals, as well as some personal ones to ensure I am balanced.
5. Prepare schedule – I do this on my desk calendar. I write down all my assignment due dates for the week, any meetings, social events that I have planned already. This allows me to visualize my upcoming week and prepare accordingly.
6. Meal plan – I am not a big meal planner, but what I will do sometimes is make a big pot of something like pasta salad. This allows me to have something in the fridge to grab easily when I am in a rush. This step is especially helpful if I have a busy week ahead as it allows me to feel less stressed by having food ready to go.
The last step to my Sunday self-care routine is to sleep early. If I am at home in Vancouver, I’ll take a nice relaxing bath to unwind, then I’ll get into bed early. In Kingston, since I don’t have a bath, I’ll relax in bed and read a book or something. The key for this part of the routine is to put your phone down and give your mind a break. Then, by going to sleep early, I find myself waking up Monday morning feeling rested and ready to take on the day.
