It’s a Friday night, and I don’t want to do anything except stay at home and relax. This is very uncommon for me, as I am someone who is always wanting to be out with my friends. Furthermore, as a university student, it can sometimes feel like there is pressure to go out, and sometimes staying in can feel like a “wasted night”. Lately though, I have been feeling very stressed, and quite frankly a little bit down. So, when it came down to figuring out my plans for tonight, the only thing that excited me was the thought of staying in and relaxing. And that’s exactly what I am going to do! In this blog post, I will share my self-care routine for solo nights, and I will share some tips for enjoying a night in by yourself.
1. The first thing I do is remind myself that it is okay to stay in. I know for some people this might sound dramatic, but as someone who falls victim to fear of missing out (FOMO), I have to remind myself that it is okay to miss a night out with my friends if my body/mind/soul feels like it needs a rest.
2. Next, I’ll usually light a candle. This is a very simple step, but it creates a peaceful ambiance. Since we are getting close to the holidays, I lighted a Christmas scented candle to help me relax.
3. Then, I will make sure the space around me is clean. This step is crucial to having a nice night in, as having a clean space helps your mind declutter. So, I quickly folded the laundry that has been piling up and cleared off all the surfaces in my room.
4. The next thing I did was put on a face mask. I was feeling very lazy and tired tonight, so I used one that I already had instead of making one. I know some face masks can be on the pricier side, so I have put some good affordable options in the favourites section of our blog.
5. Throughout the duration of the night, I typically will try to avoid social media. Not only does this help me clear my mind and focus on myself, but it also allows me to avoid getting FOMO and enjoy my time by myself.
6. A crucial part of my Friday night in is enjoying a delicious dinner. If I am wanting to treat myself, I will order in, but tonight I was in the mood to cook. I made an easy stir fry that was delicious and left me feeling full.
7. The last step in my routine is to put on a movie and relax. The good thing is since I’m alone I don’t have to worry about choosing a movie that everyone likes - I can just put on whatever I want. Tonight, I watched How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days (highly recommend if you haven’t seen it). While I watched the movie, I snacked on some Boom Chicka Pop, one of my favourite snacks.
Well, there you go – my 7 tips to enjoying a Friday night in by yourself. Although I love being out with my friends, I feel like I need a break every once in a while to reset. The best part of staying in on Friday is that you wake up Saturday feeling fresh and ready to take on the day!
