This weekend, I went to Montreal to visit my little sister. She is in her first year of university and is defiantly feeling the stress of starting at a new university. Seeing her reminded me of how overwhelming first year could be – with the new social aspect, living in a new city, getting used to being a university student and all the other new stressors. So, I suggested we do a simple face mask to treat ourselves and take care of our skin.
This simple face mask recipe can be done with ingredients that you probably have around the house, or ingredients that you can quickly run out and grab for pretty cheap. The three ingredients you’ll need are:
1. ½ teaspoon of honey
2. 1 tablespoon of ground oatmeal
3. 1 Tablespoon of plain yogurt
The instructions are fairly simple:
- Mix the yogurt and oatmeal in a bowl
- Mix the honey will a little bit of warm water
- Mix everything together
- Apply to skin and leave on for 15 - 20 minutes
- Rinse off with water
- Enjoy your moisturized skin!
If you are skeptical – like I kind of was the first time I tried this mask, here are the benefits of each ingredient. Oatmeal is moisturizing and exfoliating, so it will leave your get rid of dead skin, while leaving your face feeling moisturized. Honey is skin-calming, gentle and has antimicrobial properties, which makes it a soothing ingredient for acne-prone skin. Lastly, yogurt is good for hydration as it contains zinc and calcium! Mix all these ingredients together, and you have a hydrating, soothing and gentle face mask to treat your skin!
